It really hurt!" The doctors told him there was nothing they could do. But, Oerter persisted. So, the doctors agreed to try a method where they froze the muscle, taped it, gave him ammonia capsules and then hoped for the best.

Since each competitor gets to keep their best throw from the previous days preliminaries, Oerter could have stayed in the top eight without over extending himself. However, he said, "I just thought about the four years of hard work and those 1460 days. I did not want to cheat myself." Then during finals each competitor was allowed three throws. But because of the excruciating pain, Oerter decided to make the 2nd throw his last. "So," tells Oerter, "on that second throw I gave it everything I had." He threw an Olympic record!

When asked about the struggles experienced in training for the Olympics, Oerter replied, "Barriers in life happen all the time. You have got to step it up. If you back down, you never learn anything about life or yourself." Later in his career Oerter did have Olympic coaches who would really push him but he always knew it was to make him better.

Al Oerter was also a great success in the business world. Ironically, he worked with computers and advanced technology. Currently, Al Oerter is living in Colorado. And he is still a lean, but powerful 260 pound man. Although he is retired, he stays quite busy as a motivational speaker for a variety of corporations and as a husband, father, and grandfather.

We thank Al for the opportunity to tell his story.........................
ce not to be sober. He gives the following advice to survive: First, be aware and be smart. Second, be down to earth. Don t try to seem better than others. Third, be careful where you go and who you are with. You can be guilty by association.
Karon chose SMU to play football and made an immediate impact. He became a starter for the Mustangs at mid-season during his true freshman year. Karon also did well the following year but he wanted to be closer to home. Thus, a monumental decision was made. He transferred to Minnesota. However, according to NCAA rules, Karon sat out the first year, but.
Normally, I l'%:`OI$P~ F81$^G)bz2}q,!2P|q߬yq^8,.n.2\X};x^E^AoÊmB(-ố帾_VF-5yf?7,!FQ`DIN,] #w k(%)sɥ>;KxhaZ(oP>F˙aڜ->hᙔ ƶ﷬V5`E6vʛX8-;Ko0u]~#w0בAoݭY=xlj{7UyIFnNlKAI$P\"dS[-GD'kG{fj~?NKƽϬ\C9c?O|]M.kծ7;dO:X&4q# A?TF..H H?Ֆ*ʤ+B+LŞ@Gz3fGVZ562xlqlwֿNWqXԑSz~IwM665< V @Vr|aex m"(W3M[DD} ,:FP9.AG }E?q+7dβAcmjAEIYwdXd&܆Fq>G6pamg䕞%jtEGC 'j)DOʭi6//5ov^_a Lv(ree;_.npNjKVzsn'萫 HTRhq?D}4i: 3K1 (ol>jA |HI<ܸ!~?I}J"KCo>#ҿdq̜Q>f$ny~"~ tU(;`y+8aR'Dm4-XZ5R+!U5}#2LB2D~0G9s3palHg\XG1Gd9حu'z.XFr4n_`J; I.dX$iy~/QSc:x*%+,fX-һ
